FUNKS HYBRIDS...latest project

Here is the cover which obviously was in need of replacement...just the job for Funk's Hybrids!

After a prolonged absence due to a 2-1/2 week cold and a recent 4 day bout of "Montezuma's revenge" due to consumption of seafood, the production manager at Funks Hybrids was finally up to starting the next project. Shown here is the results of a Saturday afternoons' labor...a new well cover made with car siding over a 2" x 2" framework of pine and birch(on the bottom for added outdoor strength/longevity). Pending the assistant designers approval, some quarter-round trim may or may not be added to further "dress up" the project. Then its off the to stain and finish department for a good coat of weatherproofing.

SUNDAY'S RECIPE

CAKE BALLS

1 regular size cake mix *** 1 box instant pudding mix *** 4 eggs *** 1/3 cup oil *** 1 cup water *** 1 tub frosting *** meltable chocolate

Use any flavor cake mix, instant pudding, and frosting you like...just make sure they go together. In a large bowl mix cake mix, pudding, eggs, oil & water (disregard pkg amounts but follow mixing directions). Spread batter in greased/floured 13 x 9 or 2 - layer pans...bake as directed. Turn out onto cooling racks and cool completely.

Take 1/2 of cake and crumble into large bowl, add 1/2 tub of frosting and mix well (using your bare hands works best), repeat with other half of cake. Shape into balls and refrigerate 2 hours to firm up. Melt chocolate (i used chocolate candy coating which hardens quite well) and dip balls in to coat top side...return to fridge. These freeze well...if there's any left. Can be dressed up with sprinkles if desired and also can be made larger and put on ice cream sticks.

KANSAS WEATHER

March 13, 2011...a day like any other, or so it started. Late afternoon, and we had enough pea-sized hail to cover our deck and yard, then a couple hours later we got an inch or two of heavy wet snow...this all after an afternoon high the day before in the 70's!!!

Like we say in Kansas..."if you don't like the weather, stick around a couple minutes/hours..."!

MY NEW TRUCK

I unexpectedly sold my Yukon this week to a needy couple, so I suddenly became in the market for a new truck. Decided not to rush into anything...had a couple of leads on trucks in my range...$8-10K. Then I found this one online at Don Hattan, a 2004 Silverado with 104K miles, which was priced under the money. So we went to Wichita Saturday morning, drove it, jewed them down $500 bucks, and got them to throw in a new windshield. They should be delivering it Monday evening.

I'm not completely sold on those running boards (i think they kinda look gay), but they sure have protected the bottom of the fenders and doors! We'll just have to wait and see.

BABYSITTING THE GRANDSON

We got to babysit our grandson Sutton, last nite. He pretty much cried most of the night...separation anxiety I suppose. But there was a few times when he was happy, as evidenced here with a blankie on his head on Grandma's lap. He was also contemplating the saying "let a sleeping dog lie" in the 1 photo. It was good to see him anyways...I had a bad cold so I didn't get to hold him at all :-(

The occasion was the Kids came up to Newton to eat at the recently re-opened Chuck's Familia Restaurant...which ended up being close that night...2nd Friday in a row that they weren't open!!! I have received reports that it is standing room only and long lines to wait to get in to eat, I don't understand why they aren't sticking to a regular schedule! We will wait till the"newness" wears off before we try to go.
